Dana Mead Intern
Physics Major
MIT Washington DC Office
I interned at the MIT Washington Office, where I reported on events around DC every week for the legislative report sent to MIT and worked on a long term project. I got to follow the energy and NSA appropriations bills through the committee process, and attend various think tank events on various topics including agricultural technology or E-ARPA. For my long term project I looked at how regulations and incentive structures shape disposal of dredged material, especially after maintenance dredging of federal shipping channels. This project gave me the chance to understand how laws are translated into regulation, to see how the US Army Corps of Engineers works, and to talk to experts in the field, including consultants, senate staff, and members of the USACE.
