Dana Mead Intern
Civil and Environmental Engineering Major
World Bank Group
As an urban analytics intern for the World Bank Group’s Global Practice for Urban, Disaster Risk Management, Resilience, and Land, I was able to apply systems engineering skills in a development context to analyze emissions sensor systems in Romania. In this position I worked with a team based in Romania to use measured environmental indicators and registered industrial facilities to determine where sensing systems were insufficient and to suggest a deployment strategy to accompany the new Urban Policy. Through this work I was able to strengthen my data analytics skills, apply them in a setting with a less-than-perfect dataset, and independently drive a project from conception to completion. I was also able to learn more about the European Green Deal, the role the United States plays in international development, and the processes involved in developing a policy for a specific stakeholder.
