States United Democracy Center
This summer I interned at States United Democracy Center (SUDC) as a member of the research team, although I helped with projects in other departments. SUDC is a nonpartisan organization that works to advance free and fair elections in the United States. I was particularly interested in interning at an elections think tank due to the very contentious nature of the 2020 presidential election and 2024 being an election year, which kept us very busy. I mainly worked on projects researching political actors, their stances on the 2020 and 2024 elections, and any actions they may have taken to undermine or advance the integrity of those elections. I also performed research for the law team to a large degree, which filed responses to any impactful election litigation, especially in key states, and helped election administrators at the state and local levels draft bills that bolstered their ability to run elections interference-free. The team was composed of seasoned lawyers, young professionals, and political science PhDs who were all working together for a common goal, which promoted a strong and inspirational office culture, and working on elections in DC allowed me to keep very in-tune with a hot-topic issue that routinely made national news.
