International Monetary Fund
This summer I had an incredible time working at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) remotely. The IMF has multiple divisions, but its main mission is “working to foster global monetary cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high employment and sustainable economic growth, and reduce poverty around the world.” There are many divisions amongst the economic policy group, and I was working in the Monetary and Capital Markets Department over the summer, which was led by IMF Financial Counsellor, Tobias Adrian.
Throughout the summer I was given the responsibility of building simulations of money markets to see how cryptocurrencies would affect central banks if they chose to implement central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). The project was incredible because I was able to prototype how the future of the monetary system may look within the next few decades and simultaneously understand its implications on serious international issues such as infrastructure, poverty, and economic mobility. Overall my internship was a very valuable experience, and I am so grateful to have been a part of this program this past summer!
