United States Trade Representative
This summer I worked in the office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) in the Executive Office of the President. The USTR is responsible for developing and coordinating US International trade, commodity, and direct investment policy, and overseeing negotiations with other countries. I worked in the Economics and Trade Policy office where I contributed to a few large projects such as data analytics for the 4-year review of the 301 tariffs on China, authoring reports on labor union membership and collective bargaining on wages, and calculating import utilization rates for US tariff preference programs to inform USTR decision-making on how to incentivize African and the Caribbean Partners to increase exports to the United States. I had the opportunity to attend meetings with other organizations including the IMF and ITC, gain a deeper understanding of trade policy and America’s international economic presence, and meet influential political appointees such as President Biden.
