Mathematical Economics Major

The World Bank

This summer I interned at the World Bank in the Finance, Competitiveness, and Investment division. I was supervised by Alvaro Gonzales and Diana Sverdlin and worked in collaboration with Yichen Sun and Hannah Chung throughout the summer. Our project focused on designing a credit auction for central banks in transition economies. Our goal was to investigate if auctioning lines of credit would lead to more efficient allocations from central banks to financial intermediaries. We accomplished this by conducting a literature review, developing a mathematical model, and running a simulation to see how an auction would affect credit outcomes. We are hoping that our research can be used to further extend credit access to small and medium businesses across various countries.

Working on this project has given me the opportunity to see how economic research interplays with financial markets. This internship has piqued my interest in economic policy, market design, and a career in economics.
