The World Bank

This summer I interned at the World Bank in the Department of Urban, Subnational Finance, Tourism, and Disaster Management in the Europe and Central Asia region under Sohaib Athar and Debashree Poddar. I supported the Government of Ukraine’s conflict recovery planning efforts by analyzing conflict incidents and population data at the municipal level. Through data analysis and visualization, alongside comparisons with existing recovery plans, I identified vulnerable populations and municipalities and explored approaches for prioritizing support to these communities. I also compared EU accession requirements related to subnational governance with Ukraine’s current alignment plans to identify areas for further progress.

My internship at the World Bank gave me insight into the international development landscape and the role that multilateral development banks play in shaping policy and development outcomes. I also gained experience making decisions in data-scarce and rapidly changing environments, where access to the most recent and granular data was often limited. My experience this summer has sparked my curiosity in post-conflict recovery planning and emergency preparedness.
